the day he asked..

Yes, this post is more than 1 year late. I started penning it one year ago actually, just that I never got to finish it. But hey, this is the most important event of our lives so far, so I'm gonna publish this before we get officially wedded!

2012 - a year filled with mixed emotions.

The year we were forced to deal with the loss of a precious friend right before our anniversary celebration...

The year you whole-handedly planned my birthday celebration for me the first time after all these years...

The year I had my best birthday ever...

And also the year you went down on your knees and asked for my hand.. :)

That was the best thing that happened to me this year, even though I burst into tears immediately, and despite having suspected your intention a few weeks ago.

I have to say when I first suspected your intention (because you were sneaky and you have your buddy Alfred to thank =P) that I was..well, apprehensive.

Over the weeks, I saw you put in a lot of effort into planning. It was so untimely when you got sick just a few days before my birthday! I deeply appreciate that you overcame your sickness just to carry out your plan.

The day finally came and I was woken up by the telltale message that your (overly) helpful buddy sent you early in the morning. Perhaps he just doesn't understand you well enough to know that you are not a morning person? Why would you be awake that early during ANY day of the week?!

I crawled back to bed and pretended I didn't know any of this. While we were preparing to go out, I couldn't help but wonder if my suspicions were true, and if they were, how you would go about doing it. I was still apprehensive and I didn't know how I would react.

When you finally woke up, we prepared to go out, and I was more than excited.

Before your "mysterious" plans unfolded, you gave me hints about how the first part of the plan would utilize my creativity and design skills. We arrived at 313 Somerset, where it turned out to be DIY cake decoration. I chose the medium-sized blackforest cake and we got started. It was fun, although I didn't manage to fit in the canopy house and ended up drawing some awkward-looking clouds. Hey, you're the artist so you should be the one drawing!

Next, we went to Tanjong Pagar for the romantic dinner you planned. We walked a distance before reaching Breeze at The Scarlet Hotel. I felt like I was back at Krabi's hotel rooftop restaurant for our morning buffets, but of course, the food was exquisite, nothing like Krabi's! The fancy name of the dish "Portobello Pizzetta" enticed you to order the starter, along with baby chat potatoes as side dish. Turned out we didn't like the mushroom (not the GE map) and you preferred the potatoes. We were both considering the same 2 mains - Spring Chicken and Filo Salmon, and it kinda affirmed that our food tastes were rather similar, which pleased me of course.

The evening sun was a little too glaring for me, so I was glad when the sun finally went down. I should have taken the romantic candlelight with me when we changed tables though, because our spot was badly-lit and the only camera that was capable of shooting night-mode was running low on battery. I was secretly worried that if you indeed planned to propose to me after dinner, the camera wouldn't be able to record any of that. >-<

The best part of the dinner came - chocolate fondue!!! Chocolate makes everything taste better! Even fruits like bananas and strawberries that I shun whenever I can! The cookies were hard but yummy. You liked them as much as I did but let me have most of the cookies. Truly appreciate! Nom nom nom. Can we have more desserts when we're out, please?? It just lifts my spirits like a charm!
After the sumptuous feast, we then took a cab to MBS. I waited while you purchased the tickets to the Sands SkyPark Observation Deck at the counter.

The view was awesome. The moving cars looked like miniature toy cars, and the vast array of colourful lights were enchanting. We made our way to the part nearer to the Infinity Pool, where the toilets were.

And then, the most important moment of my life, and probably yours too, came.

You got an aunty to hold my camera on filming mode. While she was filming, you fumbled around in the navy monster bagpack for about 20 seconds, and then asked me if I was ready. The butterflies in my stomach fluttered around. This is the moment, finally. After years of anticipation, the moment finally arrived and yet it felt so surreal.

You bent down on one knee, presented the Brilliant Rose ring to me, and asked me THE question.

Tears rolled down my cheeks like a running tap. How could you ask this? Is there any chance that I would say no? No way! I'm so smitten with you, how could you ask that question? I could only nod wordlessly.

You took my hand and wanted to slip the ring onto my finger, but there was the anti-climax of me taking out the ring that was occupying my right ring finger. Then, you slipped it on.
There, the wonderful moment that will bind us together, forever.

We are officially engaged, and nothing else even matters anymore.

love ya. :)
